VIETNAM'S TERRAIN

Page excerpt from 1967 unit history.

The terrain of Vietnam is sometimes beautiful, sometimes desolate, seldom friendly and often cruel.

The Annamite Mountain chain stretches nearly the entire length of Vietnam and guides the multitude of rivers and streams that flow to the South China Sea, and in the south-west to the Gulf of Siam.

The I and II Corps areas lie in the region known as the Central Highlands and possess the varied terrain features of mountains, jungle, sand dunes, plains and deltas. The entire coastal area is predominantly rice paddies while the mountains, because of the vast and dense jungles that cover them, are among the most rugged and impenetrable in the world.
